Four Canes Earn ACC All-Tournament Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Miami men's basketball program secured its first ACC tournament championship in school history with an 87-77 victory over North Carolina.
Following their run to the top of the ACC, four Hurricanes were selected to the ACC All-Tournament Team. Guards Shane Larkin and Durand Scott were named first team All-Tournament, while center Julian Gamble and forward Trey McKinney Jones garnered second team selections. In addition to being selected to the first team, Larkin was named the ACC Tournament MVP.
Larkin dazzled throughout Miami's three-game run to the ACC tournament championship. The sophomore guard averaged 23.6 points per game in the tournament, leading Miami to wins over Boston College, NC State and North Carolina. His 28 points and seven assists in Sunday's championship game were pivotal in Miami's win.
Scott was a key leader for the Hurricanes all season and that continued in the ACC tournament. The senior led Miami in a semifinal win over NC State, scoring a game-high 32 points. An excellent defender, Scott also had at least one steal in each of Miami's three tournament games.
McKinney Jones scored in double figures in two of Miami's three games, dropping 12 points against Boston College and 20 against North Carolina. The senior was especially impressive in the championship match-up against UNC, adding three steals and connecting on six of his nine 3-point attempts.
Gamble has been solid all season for Miami and he continued that in the ACC tournament. The senior did a little bit of everything, scoring double figures twice, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds in the championship game and blocking five shots over Miami's three tournament games.
