Jaime Vathielil enters his third season with the Hurricanes as the Associate Director of Basketball Operations. His primary responsibilities include coordinating video operations, opponent scouting and assisting with the overall operations of the team.
In 2010-11, Vathielil worked for the Miami Heat as a seasonal video intern. He was responsible for breaking down opponent game video, scouting personnel tendencies, and completing video projects for the coaching and front office staff. The team won 58 games, finishing the regular season second in the Eastern Conference. The year culminated in the 2011 NBA Finals.
Vathielil worked the summer of 2010 as a player development assistant at ATTACK Athletics in Chicago. There he assisted Tim Grover, Michael Jordan's longtime personal trainer, and Mike Procopio, among the top player development coaches in the country and strategic game management coach for Kobe Bryant, to train NBA, college, high school, and international basketball players. He also created video edits for clients of the individual skills and team concepts taught in workouts to help improve their game.
Prior to joining ATTACK Athletics, Vathielil worked the 2009-2010 season on Austin Ainge's staff as a basketball operations intern with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League. Vathielil assisted with scouting opponent game video, team practice, player development and preparation for the NBA Development League Draft. The team's 27 victories tied an NBA D-League record for wins by an expansion team.
Vathielil earned his Master of Science in sport administration from the University of Miami in 2009. While working toward his degree, he was a graduate manager for the Hurricanes basketball team from 2007-2009, assisting with video scouting, team practice, individual player development, statistical analysis and film exchange. In 2007-2008, the program had one of its most successful seasons. The team posted 23 wins (second most in school history), finished a program-best fifth in the ACC, and produced Miami's first First Team All-ACC selection in Jack McClinton. The Canes returned to the national rankings and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
A native of Parkland, Fla., Vathielil is a graduate of the University of Florida, earning his Bachelor of Science in business administration in 2007.
