Alana Brown is in her first year as an associate athletic trainer at the University of Miami, after spending nearly six years as an assistant athletic trainer. She is primarily responsible for the health care of the women's basketball team and spirit squad.
Prior to working with UM, she was an athletic trainer with Select Medical Corporation in Orlando, where she worked with the entertainment cast members at Disney World. Her responsibilities included immediate care, recognition, greenroom and show coverage, individual strength and conditioning program design and implementation, and providing interventions.
Before working at Disney World, she served as an assistant athletic trainer for Ohio University for more than two years, handling the daily medical needs for the women's basketball, women's volleyball and softball teams. In addition to handling all general athletic training responsibilities, she also served as an approved clinical instructor for CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education).
Brown earned her bachelor's degree in science at the University of Central Florida in 2003, and added a masters' degree in the administration of higher education with a minor in sports management in 2005 from Auburn University. She was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Tigers, primarily covering the football and equestrian teams.
A certified kinesio taping practitioner, a certified performance enhancement specialist and a certified corrective exercise specialist, she is married to former UM athletic trainer Wes Brown.
