ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS - SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIPS
Miami's Athletic Communications office is seeking five qualified and creative social media enthusiasts (it helps to be a sports fan!) who are well-organized and want to be a part of a fun and energetic organization. The qualified applicants will help manage the Miami Hurricanes social media strategy for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Vine and Google+. They will also assist in developing creative and engaging content for all social media platforms, as well as utilizing social media tracking tools to produce weekly reports that evaluate the performance and effectiveness of our social media campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Help manage the Hurricanes social media strategy for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Vine, Google+
  • Assist in developing creative content that will increase engagement and interaction
  • Help create and schedule content for all social media platforms
  • Utilize social media tracking tools to produce weekly reports that evaluate the performance and effectiveness of social media campaigns
  • Monitor and track Canes-related activity across all relevant social media platforms
  • Must be familiar with emerging forms of social media and read leading industry publications that discuss industry trends and best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, knowledge of all sports sponsored at Miami
  • Work closely with Communications, Marketing and Creative Services to reach strategy goals
  • Hold weekly content planning meetings with Assistant AD for Communications, Assistant AD for Digital Strategy and Associate AD for Marketing
  • Procure relationships with non-traditional bloggers and social media influencers in Miami area
  • Collaborate with Assistant AD for Communications on @USocialSuite program

Qualifications

  • Full-time student at the University of Miami preferred
  • For a YouTube intern (would work with Digital Media):
    • Applicants preferably must have at least 5,000 channel views
    • Applicants preferably must have at least 50 video uploads
  • For a Facebook intern (would work with Communications & Digital Media):
    • Applicants preferably must have posted at least 3 times per day
  • For Twitter interns (would work with Chris Yandle):
    • Applicants preferably must have at least 1,000 followers and must follow at least 750 people
  • For LinkedIn intern (would work with Chris Freet):
    • Applicants preferably must have at least 350 connections
    • Applicants preferably must also have a complete LinkedIn resume and bio
  • For Instagram intern (would work with Communications & Digital Media):
    • Applicants preferably must have at least 400 posts and 300 followers
  • Must successfully pass a social media education course and a social media content exam administrated by the Communications office
  • All social media profiles will be screened
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a team
  • Strong writing skills with a specific understanding of how to write and communicate on each social platform
  • Ability to think creatively and visually with regards to the presentation of content
  • Should possess experience with established social platforms including: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Vine and Google+
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, must pass Compliance test
  • Must be trustworthy given access to sensitive information
  • Graphic design/Photoshop skills a plus
  • Passion for, and understanding of, leading and emerging social media platforms and analytics
  • Ability to analyze social media data and organize into actionable information
  • Highly effective internal and external communicator
  • Ability to produce high quality work under tight deadlines

Compensation
The position is an unpaid internship that can be used for course credit or on a volunteer basis.

ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS - COMMUNICATIONS/MEDIA RELATIONS INTERNSHIPS

Looking for qualified, hard working interns who have a desire to work in the sports communications field. Long hours and weekends are a must. The qualified applicant must be willing to learn computer programs such as InDesign, Photoshop and DreamWeaver. The internship is unpaid.

The summer 2014 internship has been filled. Openings are available for the fall 2014 internship. 

Duties and Qualifications

  • Attend and work home games
  • Write press releases and other documents
  • Update player pages and bios for student-athletes
  • Update web content on HurricaneSports.com
  • Assist with all communications facets of all sports
  • Conduct interviews
  • Handle media credential requests and distribution
  • Video streaming and uploading press conferences and other events

ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS - MULTIMEDIA INTERNSHIPS
Looking for qualified, hard-working interns who have a desire to work in the sports communications field. Long hours and weekends are a must. The internship is unpaid. 

Qualifications and Duties
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of television/ multimedia production, including knowledge of post-production software such as Final Cut or Premier Pro.
  • Must be comfortable in front of and behind camera for items such as news stories or features.
  • Basic knowledge of interview protocol and techniques within athletics.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to, highlight packages, feature stories, coach and player interviews, video blogs and video tours of the campus and city.
  • Interns must bring their own computers with Final Cut or Premier Pro already installed as well as a USB flash drive.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks on a daily basis without supervision.
  • Expected to work at least 20 hours per week in the office.

ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS - GRAPHIC DESIGNER
The UM Athletics department is seeking a college student to serve as a graphic design intern that will be charged with assisting in the design of 20 infographics over the course of the 2012-13 academic year.  The intern’s work will be posted on HurricaneSports.com, the official website of the Miami Hurricanes, and social media platforms with appropriate credits.

Required Skills
  • HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Javascript
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Ability to work under deadline and adhere to specific set of brand guidelines
  • Out of the box and creative designer
Preferred Skills
  • jQuery, ASP, Illustrator, Premier, After Effects

ACADEMIC SERVICES - ACADEMIC INTERN / ACADEMIC ADVISING
Duration
August 1 – May 31 (approximately 37.5 hours/week)

Brief Description
Assist academic advisors with a wide variety of tasks and processes involved in the day-to-day operations of athletics academic services.

List of Duties

  • Supervise study hall program (evenings)
  • Evaluate high school transcripts for NCAA Initial Eligibility Requirements as part of the official visit process
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes during official and unofficial visits
  • Serve as an apprentice advisor: 
         - Determine the academic support needs of an assigned group of student-athletes through regular one-on-one consultation meetings
         - Monitor academic performance through Proactive Mentorship meetings and active communication with instructors as needed
         - Assist student-athletes with class scheduling and mapping path to graduation
         - Monitor class attendance and study hall progress
  • Meet regularly with coaches
  • Assist with book distribution program
  • Update eligibility database using the Compliance Assistant (CAi) software
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be available some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

  • Assist the Learning Specialist with planning and implementation of the Freshman Academic Success Training (F.A.S.T.) Program, including the coordination of academic mentors and tutors
  • Active monitoring of student-athletes with critical learning needs
  • Assist the Tutor Coordinator with all facets of Tutorial Program including screening, hiring, training, monitoring and evaluating tutors
  • Monitor class attendance in coordination with class monitor
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes during official and unofficial visits
  • Meet regularly with coaches as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be available some evenings and weekends

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

HURRICANE CLUB - GAME DAY HOSPITALITY POSITION

Basic Job Function

The qualified candidates will be responsible for assisting with game day hospitality for the Hurricane Club and Athletics Department under the direction of Hurricane Club staff. Candidate must be able to work all home football game day and men’s basketball game day hospitality. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, organization and execution of Hurricane Club game day hospitality.
  • Serve as a suite ambassador and/or hospitality ambassador for the Hurricane Club at home football games, tailgates, and at men’s home basketball games.
    - 2014 Football Season – must be able to work all 7 home games.
    - 2014/2015 Men’s Basketball Season – be able to work at least 8 home games.
  • Ensure suite and hospitality area readiness prior to time gates/doors open, greet donors and their guests, and be actively involved in stewardship for the Hurricane Club.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates are currently enrolled University of Miami as an undergraduate or graduate student and have an interest in pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics, specifically athletics development. Previous customer service experience is helpful but not required. Candidate must be engaging, professional, and be interested in promoting customer service excellence. The position is an uncompensated position but can be used for course credit if applicable. Positions will begin in August 2014 and run through March 2015.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with donor relations, new member solicitation, and member renewals to help meet the current goals of the Hurricane Club including: fundraising for the Student-Athlete Excellence Fund, increasing the membership base, and achieve membership participation in our Canes Plus Program.
  • Office duties such as greeting guests, answering phones, responding to emails, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures including adhering to all NCAA regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality with donor information.
  • Conduct research to be used in future fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with preparation of fundraising initiatives for the spring, as well game day prep activities for football and basketball.
  • Work Hurricane Club game day hospitality as needed.

MARKETING - UNDERGRADUATE / GRADUATE INTERNSHIP

Basic Job Function

This qualified candidate will be responsible for assisting in the execution of strategic marketing planning and initiatives for the University of Miami athletic programs. Work with the Marketing staff to plan and execute marketing plans for the revenue-generating sports, as well as the Olympic sports. Develop fan-friendly strategies that serve the needs of the athletics programs and other assignments as designated by the marketing staff. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with implementation of the annual marketing plans for assigned sports programs with a focus on increasing attendance and game atmosphere/fan experience and generating revenue.
  • Assist with the fulfillment of in-game promotions, sponsorship elements, presentations and entertainment.
  • Conduct research to be implemented into future marketing plans. 
  • Assist with distribution of collateral materials. 
  • Assisting with the operations of the community relations efforts including, fulfilling donation, appearance, and autograph requests and the operation of the Nike Future Canes program.
  • Office duties such as, filing, phones, e-mail, inventory or organization.

This qualified candidate will be responsible for working sporting events for the University of Miami Marketing department. Candidates will execute marketing plans and assist in day of game promotions and fan engagement. Individuals will also be a member of the Canes Street Team, assisting in promoting Athletic programs on campus and in the community.  

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with implementation of game day promotions and in-game sponsorship elements to enhance game day atmosphere and fan experience.
  • Interact with fans during games and in on-field promotions.
  • Participate in promotion and outreach efforts with the Canes Street Team. 
  • Assist with distribution of collateral materials. 
  • Assist department in community relation events and interact with student athletes and members of the community.
  • Must be available to work assigned dates and times.

MARKETING - VIDEO INTERNSHIP
The University of Miami Athletic department is a premier Division I Athletic Department participating in 17 intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Basic Job Function
This qualified candidate will be responsible for assisting the University of Miami athletic marketing department in video production. Work with the Marketing staff to plan and execute weekly marketing videos as well as specific promotional videos. The candidate will also develop videos for in-game use on the video board during sporting events. Candidate will have the opportunity to plan, direct, produce, and edit video material used in all aspects of UM Athletic marketing. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with creation of weekly video spots promoting the upcoming UM Athletic events.
  • Plan video projects implementing creative and original ideas involving UM athletes and campus locations.
  • Script video projects and direct entire shoot.
  • Edit and finalize projects for distribution and viral releases within UM channels.
  • Create required and additional creative and atmosphere enhancing videos for video board use at applicable UM sporting events.
  • Assist in creative video projects for mascot and spirit squads for UM Athletics.
  • Shoot required video at athletic competitions and community events as necessary.
  • Candidates will create slides for video board use with Adobe Suite Software.
