Notes & Quotes: Miami - Boston College
Head coach Al Golden
Opening
“I couldn’t be prouder of a group. We are down 14 in the ACC, in a terrible environment. You know we were rattled a little bit, dropping balls and off-sides and things like that and just to hang in there. They did a good job. That was good. You think about where we were last November against their team and basically their whole team coming back and we lost virtually all of ours.’’
“I just said to the coaches these guys did a great job ... in 29 practices we did that. A lot of young guys came through for us.’’
On the turning point for Miami
“Maybe Denzel but it was back to even there. It went back and forth I think we traded field goals, I can’t remember maybe field goals. We stayed together and kept plugging.’’
What do you say to them down by 14 points?
“Nothing, if that is not in your team by now you’re in trouble – in that environment, down 14 and not just down 14, but a couple drops and down by 14. Obviously, we had a couple of blown assignments and down 14. They just came right down and did it to us. We have good leadership on the sideline and good unity on this team. I’ve been saying it all along this team is strong off the field. I think that showed up today.’’
About the Miami quarterback Stephen Morris
“You think about the drops, we must have had seven drops. That might be on the low side. We’ll get through that, we’ll fix that. He threw the ball really well. It thought he had great command. You think about where he was a year ago today and where he is today. He’s our unquestioned leader right now. He had poise the whole game.”
WR Allen Hurns
On the style of offense used today…
“We just wanted to go out there and put pressure on their defense and take advantage of whatever they gave us.”
On the multiple dropped passes today and whether he could calm the other receivers down …
“I had a drop myself, as a group we push each other very much so we started getting on each other to elevate our game. Stephen gave us confidence as well by going right back to us after a drop.”
Comparing the team the previous two seasons to this one…“We have more unity, we dropped down 14-0 and everyone was still pushing each other and with each other. The receivers had drops but the offensive line kept saying “we are with you guys.”
OL Shane McDermott
On QB Stephen Morris…
“Stephen did a great job today, he took control of the huddle, read the defense perfectly, and did a great job leading us. We’re really looking forward to the next game.”
On being down 14-0 early in the game…
“We weren’t worried on the sideline, we just kept saying to “bunker down” and we just needed to get going.”
On Perryman’s interception…
Any interception is huge in any game, our defense certainly gave us a lot of opportunities to get into the end zone.
WR Phillip Dorsett
On Stephen Morris’ play…
“Stephen has matured this off-season, we have seen all the leadership traits in him and we knew he would eventually take control of the game. We had a game plan set up for him and he stuck with it and we ended up coming out with a win.”
On Duke Johnson’s impact in the game…
“His play was a huge momentum boost, without those two big runs who knows what would have happened to the outcome of that game. He has shown flashes like that out in practice every day so we knew he was going to have a great game.”
