Hurricanes Drop Match To Illinois State, 3-1
NORMAL, Ill. - Junior right side Alex Johnson picked up her third double-double of the season, but the University of Miami volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season at Illinois State University, 3-1, on Saturday at the Redbird Classic. Prior to the defeat, UM had won its last 22 non-conference regular season matches.
The Redbirds (3-2), the hosts of the tournament, won by the set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-11.
Johnson led the Canes (5-1) with 12 kills to go with 12 digs, while outside hitters Taylor Hollins (11) and Savanah Leaf (10) also recorded double-digit kills. Junior libero Ryan Shaffer paced the visitors with a match-high 19 digs. It was the first true road match for Miami this season.
Brooklyn Hlafka of ISU led the match with 15 kills off the bench.
The Hurricanes will return to the Redbird Classic today at 5:30 p.m. ET to take on Presbyterian.
