In August 2012, David Jager joined the University of Miami Hurricanes as an assistant athletic trainer.
Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Jager served as the associate athletic trainer for football at Eastern Illinois University. As the associate athletic trainer, his responsibilities included overseeing the daily operations, organization, planning and growth of the athletic training department, supervising the O’Brien Stadium athletic training room and coordinating with the head strength and conditioning coach to ensure proper conditioning of the student-athletes.
Previous to his stint at Eastern Illinois, Jager was the director of athletic training services at Radford University from June 2008 to March 2010. As the director, Jager was responsible for directing the health care delivery team in the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions. He also provided overall enhancement of athletic performance through physical medicine, strength and conditioning and rehabilitative services for the student-athlete and supervised, educated and performed evaluations of athletic training students enrolled in the accredited athletic training education program.
Preceding his employment as the director of athletic training services at Radford, Jager served as the head athletic trainer and an adjunct professor and collegiate advisor at Ferrum College from August 2005 to May 2008. At Ferrum, he was responsible for directing and administering health care for all student-athletes under the guidance of team physicians while supervising three staff certified athletic trainers and two athletic training interns, providing primary coverage and care for the football, basketball and baseball teams and advising students on weekly assessment meetings, course scheduling and supervising course mentors.
Jager graduated from Grand Valley State University in April 2003 with a bachelor’s in movement science with an emphasis in athletic training. In August 2005, he graduated from Virginia Tech University with a master’s in education, health, and physical education.
Jager holds a certification from the American Heart Association in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, is SASTMM certified, is a CAATE Approved Clinical Instructor and has had impact evaluation concussion training.
