MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - The University of Miami rowing team hosted their first fall event against local schools Barry and Nova Southeastern on Saturday. The Hurricanes fielded crews in all three events and rowed away with wins in two of them.
The Varsity Women's 8+ had a solid first test, finishing 16 seconds ahead of Barry and 55 ahead of Nova on the 4300m course. Testing a new lineup, the Varsity 4+ finished just over a minute and a half in front of their closest challenger.
"It was a terrific morning for the event and I think our crews not only went away with some good impressions of their first race effort but also with a good sense that there is room to improve," head coach Andrew Carter said. "In all, I was quite pleased with the outcomes when I consider where we are in our preparations this year."
The Canes will next scrimmage at home on October 27 before they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Head of the Hooch Regatta on Nov. 3-4.
