CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami cross country team are set to compete in the ACC Championships on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course at Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Va. The women will run a 6k race starting at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8k competition at 10:50 a.m.
"I am expecting some good things to come from this year's conference meet," assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths said. "Both teams have gotten better each week and will be prepared to compete their best on Saturday morning."
The women have been led all season by junior Lindsi Arrington, who posted a then-personal-best at the ACC Championships a season ago. She will be joined in the field by junior Brooke Dovell, senior Jennifer Estime, sophomore Julia Koch, junior Allison Ludwick, junior Alaine Tate and junior Taylor Votek.
"I think this can be a breakthrough race for Lindsi," Griffiths commented. "She has shown that she is ready to compete with the top girls in the conference."
Led by junior Sean Pezzulo, the men's team will look to improve upon its finish in previous years. Running alongside him will be junior Luke Fontaine, freshman Bert Irigoyen, sophomore JaCee Jarnigin, senior Greg Kaczka, freshman Kevin Marsh and sophomore A.J. Ricketts.
"Sean and Greg have battled through some injuries this fall, but they have been able to carry the men's team for most of the season," Griffiths said.
The Hurricanes will be going up against some of the top competition in the country, as three women's teams are ranked in the top 30 of the weekly USTFCCCA poll. Three men's teams are also in the top 25.
