WBB Enters Season at No. 24 in AP Poll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami women's basketball team will enter the 2012-13 season as the No. 24 team in the nation as announced by the Associated Press on Saturday. It is the second straight preseason ranking for the Canes after they entered the poll at No. 7 a year ago.
Saturday marks just the second time that the Canes have been ranked in the preseason poll.
"Our program has been so successful the last two years and although we have lost a lot to graduation, I am pleased that people recognize that we have some other players who have been working hard and have Miami pride," said head coach Katie Meier. "I feel like we have a big-time program here and sustained success is the final step in our growth."
Miami returns two All-ACC players in Stefanie Yderstrom and Morgan Stroman. Each was named to the conference's third team, Stroman in 2011 and Yderstrom in 2012.
UM also will see the addition of three freshman that made up a signing class that ranked 19th according to ESPNU Hoop Gurlz.
The Canes will face five teams that are ranked in the AP Top 25 poll, including No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Maryland, No. 8 Penn State, No. 20 Tennessee, and No. 22 Georgia Tech. Miami will play Duke and Georgia Tech two times each during the regular season.
Miami welcomes Nova Southeastern for an exhibition game at the BankUnited Center on Nov. 5 at 7:05 p.m. The regular season gets underway on Nov. 9 when the Canes face North Florida in Coral Gables at 8 p.m.
The Hurricanes' general admission season ticket prices remain at just $50, while reserved courtside seats are available for only $75.
Katie Meier's Canes welcome 18 teams to the BankUnited Center this upcoming season. That's less than $3 per game! Traditional ACC powers Duke and North Carolina, in addition to national staples Tennessee and Penn State will pay a visit to Coral Gables.
