CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem and the University of Miami track and field program announced the 2013 indoor and outdoor schedule on Wednesday. The slate is highlighted by three outdoor home meets and the ACC and NCAA Championships for both seasons.
"We are excited about the 2013 indoor and outdoor schedule," Deem said. "The schedule gives us challenging opportunities to compete against some the best track and field teams in the country."
The indoor slate features eight meets, starting with the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 11. The teams will also travel to Auburn, New Mexico, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame to compete. The ACC Championships will be held Feb. 21-23 at Virginia Tech, with the NCAA Championships scheduled for Arkansas from March 8-9.
"We have added two new meets to our indoor schedule with trips to New Mexico and Birmingham," Deem said. "Both will provide us great competitions on two of the best indoor tracks in the country."
The outdoor season will commence with the annual Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium on March 15. Other home events include the Miami Invitational (March 23) and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational (April 13). The road slate involves a trip to the historic Penn Relays (April 25-27) in Philadelphia among other meets. All-ACC status will be on the line at NC State from April 18-20.
"The addition of a third home meet gives us an opportunity to showcase not only our team, but bring even more exciting track and field meets to the university campus and South Florida community," Deem said.
The NCAA East Preliminary will be contested in Greensboro, N.C., with the NCAA Championships being staged at Oregon from June 5-8. The USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa (June 20-23) conclude the season.
The Canes return two All-Americans in 2013, senior jumper Samantha Williams and junior hurdler Thandi Stewart.
