DiMare Named Baseball Recruiting Coordinator

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami assistant baseball coach Gino DiMare has been appointed recruiting coordinator, head coach Jim Morris announced Monday.

"This new title is very similar to the role he had previously," Coach Morris said. "He has proven himself in the past, and I expect him to do a great job once again."

DiMare's impact on the team since rejoining the coaching staff is already evident. Collegiate Baseball named the Hurricanes' incoming class ninth-best in the country, while Baseball America rated it No. 10. 2012 marked the first season Miami's recruiting class cracked Baseball America's top 10 since 2006.

DiMare's accomplishments on the recruiting scene during his first nine years in the same capacity were impressive. The team's 2001 class was rated among the top five nationally, while the 2003 class was ranked among the top 15 nationally. The latter group included Ryan Braun, the 2005 ACC Player of the Year, and Cesar Carrillo, the ACC's Pitcher of the Year that same season. Braun and Carrillo were both selected in the first round of Major League Baseball's 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

UM's 2008 recruiting class, which was targeted primarily by DiMare, was ranked second by Collegiate Baseball and fifth by Baseball America prior to the 2007 season. He has recruited the likes of Braun (Milwaukee), Gaby Sanchez (Pittsburgh), Chris Perez (Cleveland), Jon Jay (St. Louis), Yonder Alonso (San Diego) and Jemile Weeks (Oakland), all of whom have reached the big leagues in recent years.

"Recruiting is the heartbeat of our program," Morris added. "I'm extremely confident in Gino and his ability to handle responsibilities as recruiting coordinator."
