CORAL GABLES, Fla.  -  After a weekend of facing three ranked teams, No. 11 Texas, No. 14 Texas A&M and No. 26 Vanderbilt, the ninth-ranked Hurricanes came out on top, winning the Miami Spring Invite at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

"This was a real fun weekend of tennis at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center," said Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. "Regardless of which court you were watching, you were seeing just amazing tennis."

The Canes picked up 15 points with a pair of wins in doubles play, including Brittany Dubins and Kelsey Laurente's 8-5 win over the nation's seventh-ranked duo, Cristina Stancu and Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M.

At No. 1 doubles, Lina Lileikite and freshman Stephanie Wagner outpaced the Aggies' Wen Sun and Nazari Urbina, 8-5.

In singles play, three of Miami's four wins came from freshmen, including a 6-4, 6-3 decision by UM's 92nd-ranked Wagner over Texas' Elizabeth Begley.

The other two freshmen winners showed their fight as both Clementina Riobueno (6-4, 4-6, 10-5) and Deborah Suarez (2-6, 7-5, 11-9) battled to three-set wins over Lina Padegimaite and Lana Groenvynck, respectively.

Junior Brittany Dubins easily dispatched the Longhorns' Juliana in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

"Our team improved each day and that's all a coach can ask for," added Yaroshuk-Tews. "Our young players are growing up fast and beginning to transition to the next level."

Miami ended the three-day event with 87 points, while Vanderbilt closed on the final day with 86. Texas and Texas A&M rounded out the teams with 85 and 81 points, respectively.

"Speaking in behalf of all the programs, I couldn't have been happier to see these four teams competing at this level for three consecutive days," said Yaroshuk-Tews. "We are all better programs at the end of this weekend than we were at the beginning."
