Women's Golf Hosts Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes women's golf team continues its stretch of five straight tournaments in the Sunshine State by hosting the Hurricane Invitational at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club.

The two-day tournament will be held Mon., Feb. 4 and Tue., Feb. 5 at the par-71, 6,018-yard Deering Bay course in Coral Gables. Monday will feature 36 holes, while the final 18 will be played Tuesday. Monday's first round will tee off at 8 a.m. ET with continuous play following through the second round. Eighty-nine golfers from 16 teams will be competing at Deering Bay, including five Top 60 teams - No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Baylor, No. 26 Campbell, No. 48 Texas State and No. 58 Minnesota.

All seven Miami Hurricanes golfers will play at Deering Bay. Miami’s lineup will be anchored by two sophomores - Rika Park and Leticia Ras-Anderica - and three freshmen - Laura Hendee, Christina Ocampo and Lauren Riehle. Junior Carina Cuculiza and sophomore transfer Audrey Monssoh will compete as individuals.

"All of our girls have been in high-pressure situations," assistant coach John Koskinen said. "Many of them have won several junior events before coming here and now they’ve all had some experience in the college level.

"So I would feel comfortable with any of them having to make a game-winning putt," Koskinen said.

Through the season's first five tournaments, Miami has been paced by its sophomore duo of Park and Ras-Anderica, who both represented the Hurricanes as individuals at the 2012 NCAA Central Regional. Park leads the Canes with a 74.71 stroke average through 14 rounds, while Ras-Anderica ranks second on the squad at 74.93.

"This year's (Hurricane Invitational) field is deeper than last year's," Koskinen said. "More ranked teams are heading down this weekend so practicing (at Deering Bay) every Friday adds an advantage. At the same time it opens an opportunity to climb the rankings."

Park, Ras-Anderica, Ocampo, Hendee and Riehle have played in all five of Miami's tournaments this season.
