SORRENTO, Fla. - After posting an opening-round 293, the Miami Hurricanes women's golf team climbed two spots Monday into a sixth-place tie, seven shots out of the Top 3, at the UCF Challenge.

Miami carded a 7-over 295 during Monday's second round and its 36-hole score of 12-over 588 is the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history - second only to the Canes’ 585 set in 1986.

North Carolina owns a commanding 16-stroke lead through 36 holes at 11-under 565, while host UCF and Tulane are tied for second 5-over 581. East Carolina and Augusta State are tied for fourth at 11-over 587.

"We're playing really well out here," third-year head coach Patti Rizzo said. "The field played longer on us today because the winds played against us. We had to use about two-and-a-half clubs for most of the day. Overall I think we're in a good spot. We moved up two (spots) and were within reach of a couple teams."

Sophomore Leticia Ras-Anderica, who shot a first-round 69 Sunday, missed just one green Monday on her way to shooting an even-par 72. Through 36 holes, she is tied for fourth at 3-under 141, two strokes behind co-leaders Natalie Wille (Augusta State) and Briana Mao (Virginia). Ras-Anderica's 36-hole score of 141 is tied for the fourth-best in program history, tying with four former All-Americans - Tracy Kerdyk, Michele Michanowicz, Penny Hammel and Carolyn Hill.

"Leticia was just stripping it today," Rizzo said. "It's rare that we both disagree on shots and she’s been taking great shots. She only missed one green today."

Freshman Christina Ocampo turned in a second-straight 2-over 74 and is tied for 27th at 4-over 148. Ocampo registered three birdies in the second round, including two on par-5s and one on a par-4.

After shooting a second-round 74, sophomore Rika Park is tied for 45th with a 6-over 150. She opened Monday's round with a birdie on the second hole but totaled four bogeys and one birdie the rest of the day.

Freshman Laura Hendee (9-over 153) and junior Carina Cuculiza (10-over 154) are tied for 62nd and 68th, respectively.

The final round of the 2013 UCF Challenge will begin with an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start Tuesday. Live scoring for the remaining 18 holes will be available at www.golfstat.com.
