SKILLMAN, N.J. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team faced one of its most daunting road trips of the season when it went to the Lone Star State to take on No. 22 Texas and 29th-ranked Baylor.

All the Canes did was win both matches, one in a rout, and push it record to 10-3 on the season. Miami winners of four straight moved up one spot to No. 9 in the latest ITA rankings – matching the highest it has been this season.

“We’ve been playing hard and I think the bump [in the rankings] is deserved,” said UM head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. “Although, we have to be careful not to become complacent during this next stretch.

“We have some real solid teams coming here in NC State and Wake Forest and we need to be alert.”

What makes the accomplishment of cracking the Top 10 is that all three of the Hurricanes ranked singles players are just freshmen.

Kelsey Laurente finds herself ranked 73rd, while fellow diaper dandies Stepahnie Wagner and Clementina Riobueno come in at Nos. 104 and 122, respectively.

Miami is really impressive in doubles competition as all three pairs are ranked once again. At the time, the team of Lina Lileikite and Wagner were ranked 48th when they defeated Texas’ 19th-ranked pair of Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott, 8-2. For their efforts, Lileikite and Wagner moved up 17 spots to No. 31 in the latest rankings.

The tandems of Melissa Bolivar and Riobueno as well as Laurente and Brittany Dubins remained at their previous positions of Nos. 63 and 73.

The Hurricanes have a busy week ahead of them. They face three straight opponents at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, beginning with Brown on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Miami welcomes No. 35 NC State on Thursday at noon and Wake Forest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
