Larkin Earns NABC All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shane Larkin’s stellar play throughout the 2012-13 season has helped get the Miami Hurricanes to the Sweet 16. It has also earned the sophomore guard national recognition for his outstanding performance.

Larkin was named second team All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The Orlando, Fla., native is one of 15 players to earn a spot on the 2013 NABC Coaches’ Division I All-America teams. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. 

A finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, Larkin’s most recent performance featured a step-back three pointer against Illinois in the Round of 32 that helped push Miami past the Illini and into the Sweet 16. The talented guard had 17 points, five assists and a steal in Miami’s 63-59 victory.

Larkin has been a force for Miami all season. The sophomore leads the Hurricanes in scoring at 14.5 ppg. He is also tops on the team in 3-point percentage (40.6%), assists (160) and steals (70). Some of Larkin’s accomplishments this season include earning ACC Tournament MVP and being named ACC Player of the Year by the conference coaches.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
