Wagner to Play in NCAA Singles Championship

URBANA, Ill. – The draw for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles Championship was announced on Tuesday and the University of Miami’s Stephanie Wagner will be one of the 64 competitors.

Wagner, a freshman out of Amberg, Germany will face San Jose State’s Klaudia Boczova in the tournament’s first round, a match that is scheduled to start Wednesday at 1 p.m. EST.

Boczova, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia was named the WAC Player of the Year and helped lead the Spartans to their first conference title and NCAA team tournament appearance. The sophomore finished her spring season with a 16-3 singles record and is currently the nation’s 54th-ranked player.

As the 60th-ranked singles player, Wagner has some accolades of her own. Playing out of the No. 1 position since March 27, Wagner has been named All-ACC and selected as the ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year. She has posted a 26-10 singles record in her first collegiate year and helped lead the Hurricanes to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals for a record fifth consecutive season.

With a win, Wagner would face the winner of the match between USC’s Danielle Lao (No. 9) and Texas’ Breaunna Addison (No. 31) on Thursday.
