Pepper Wilson Signs With Spanish-LF2 Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former University of Miami women’s basketball center Shawnice “Pepper” Wilson has signed a professional contract with Orion-Gdko Ibaizabal Galdakao of the Spanish-LF2 league. Wilson is the second former Hurricane in the last three days to sign a professional contract.

“I’m very excited about playing pro ball,” Wilson said. “It’s a dream come true and it’s what I have been working so hard for since middle school.”

Wilson played two seasons for Miami after transferring from the University of Pittsburgh. In her final year with the Hurricanes, she averaged 10.0 ppg and 8.6 rebounds.

“We are extremely proud of Pepper and all that she has accomplished,” head coach Katie Meier said. “She was one of the most improved players in the nation during her time here and that is due to her tremendous work ethic.  Her determination is inspirational and the community in Spain will love her. I’m so happy we were able to see another Cane reach their professional dreams.”

Wilson joins the professional ranks alongside fellow 2013 graduate Morgan Stroman, who signed a contract with Honka Akatemia Espoo in Finland.

“Playing under Coach Meier at Miami definitely transformed my game to a level that has created this amazing opportunity,” Wilson added.

The Pittsburgh, Pa., native becomes the 11th player to sign a professional basketball contract under Coach Meier.

“I’m excited about my future in basketball and I thank my teammates, coaches, support staff, and all of my fans for all of the support they’ve shown for me through my career.”
