Canada Drops Jamaican National Team, 81-72

Durand Scott’s Jamaican National Basketball Team fell to Canada 81-72 Thursday Night. The game marked the first of a two game friendly between the FIBA Americas participants.

Canadian men's basketball coach Jay Triano’s nephew, Brady Heslip, scored 18 points and was named player of the game.

Jamaica got off to a quick start with the first four points of the game but failed to regain the lead. Jamaica brought the game to within two at the half thanks to Jamaica’s Adrian Uter, who scored 15 of his 16 points in the first half. Scott added three points in limited action.

Heslip scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Canadians pull away. He finished the night 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-7 from three-point range.

The Jack Donohue International Classic is a warm-up for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, where four nations will earn the right to represent their countries in the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Canada and Jamaica meet again at the Ryerson University's Mattamy Athletic Centre Saturday night at 7 p.m.
