Diving Continues Impressive Run in Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Miami Hurricanes continued their impressive run at the 2013 AT&T National Diving Championships Tuesday, as Sam Dorman and Zac Nees both advanced to Saturday's 3-meter finals.
Dorman, who captured his first career national championship Tuesday in the 1-meter event, delivered another strong showing on the University of Iowa campus. The Tempe, Ariz., native finished ninth in the semifinals with a score of 384.40, qualifying for Saturday's 12-member final round.
Nees, who competed at the World University Games in Russia alongside Dorman earlier this summer, also earned a place in Saturday's 3-meter finale. The Hatfield, Pa., native, who redshirted the 2012-13 season after transferring from Indiana, finished with a score of 371.65. Dorman and Nees were two of the qualifiers from a group of over 25 entrants.
Rising sophomore Tanner Wilfong delivered an impressive performance of his own Thursday morning, earning a spot in the afternoon's platform quarterfinal round with a 12th-place showing in preliminaries. The Hershey, Pa., native finished with a score of 302.95. Platform quarterfinals will take place at 3 p.m., while semifinals will take place at 7 p.m.
Forner Hurricane Brittany Viola, who dove for Team USA during the 2012 London Olympics, saw her pool record in the 10-meter (357.70, 2011) broken by Murphy Bromberg in the semifinal round.
