GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country program had a productive day at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on the University of Florida campus.
The Hurricane women had an individual place in the Top 10 in the 6k race, while the men’s team earned a Top 10 finish in the 8k.
Lindsi Arrington was Miami’s top finisher on the women’s side, placing ninth with a time of 21:45.57. It was the senior’s second consecutive Top 10 finish of the 2013 season after placing second at the WA Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago.
“Lindsi continues to improve each week,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “ She is ahead of where she was last year at this point of the season.”
Senior Brooke Dovell (23:46.78) and junior Taylor Votek (23:55.39) were Miami’s next best finishers on the women’s side. Freshmen Megan Brown and Gabrielle Hesslau were the only newcomers to run on the women’s side, finishing in 25:20.71 and 25:28.06, respectively.
A trio of seniors paced the Canes on the men’s side. Sean Pezzulo led Miami’s men, finishing the 8k in 25:24.45 to place 24th. JaCee Jarnagin finished just behind Pezzulo, placing 30th with a time of 25:33.49, while Luke Fontaine placed 34th with a time of 25:40.93.
“The men had a fantastic meet,” Griffiths said. “Several ran personal-best times and we had two good packs. They really competed today and were rewarded for it.”
Senior Connor Adams (26.31.27), junior Douglas Dourado (26:42.24), sophomore Kevin Marsh (26:43.58), freshman Jon Keller (26:53.48) and junior AJ Ricketts (27:21.08) helped the Miami men place sixth among 11 Division I teams.
