Football Debuts at No. 7 in BCS Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes debuted at No. 7 in the first BCS rankings released Sunday night on ESPN. Miami is the second-highest ACC team in the BCS standings behind only Florida State (No. 2).
Earlier on Sunday, Miami (6-0, 2-0 ACC) climbed three spots to No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25 and five spots to No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches polls. Miami is also No. 7 in the Harris Interactive Poll. Both the Harris Interactive and USA TODAY Sports Coaches polls are part of the BCS ranking formula.
Miami is in the BCS rankings for the first time since Nov. 24, 2010, when the Hurricanes were No. 24. It is Miami’s first BCS Top 10 ranking since Oct. 18, 2009, when it was No. 10. Sunday’s ranking is Miami’s highest in the BCS since the Hurricanes were No. 3 on Nov. 13, 2005.
Miami extended its winning streak to eight games with a 27-23 road win Oct. 17 at North Carolina. Miami’s eight-game winning streak is its longest since winning 10 straight over the 2003 and 2004 seasons (final four of 2003, first six of 2004).
The Hurricanes will look for their first 7-0 start since the 2003 season when they host Wake Forest (4-3, 2-2 ACC) at noon Oct. 26 on ESPNU. Fewer than 7,000 tickets remain for Miami’s Oct. 26 home game vs. Wake Forest, which is also UM Employee Day.
