CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The ACC tipped off Sportsmanship Week this past Monday, Jan. 20, and will end the campaign this coming Sunday, Jan. 26.
In an effort to emphasize and promote sportsmanship, teams will put their rivalries aside and participate in pregame handshakes. Opposing teams will line up at the free-throw line facing each other during the National Anthem. Prior to the opening tip, teams will meet at half court and shake hands.
The University of Miami is hosting two games during Sportsmanship Week, including tonight’s matchup against No. 18 Duke at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s game versus No. 2 Syracuse at 1 p.m.
This is the fourth consecutive year the ACC has celebrated the sportsmanship initiative. Schools took part in Sportsmanship Week during the fall from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, and will do so again once more in the spring beginning on April 7 and ending on April 13.
