Senior Aly Rises to No. 66 in the Nation

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami senior Omar Aly has jumped four spots in the latest ITA poll, moving to No. 66 in the latest men’s singles rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday.

As a team, the Hurricanes are ranked No. 47 in this week’s ITA poll, down one spot from last week’s No. 46 rank.

Aly, who is 14-5 in singles this season, was ranked No. 92 on April 1, then jumped to No. 70 in the April 8 poll.

The native of Edmond, Okla., has defeated a pair of top 25 players this year, downing No. 20 Romain Bogaerts from Wake Forest, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) on March 21 and defeating UNC’s No. 25 Ronnie Schneider 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (9-7) on April 6.

Aly is 5-3 in ACC matches, and 6-3 in his last 10 events. He is 9-4 when playing in the top position, 3-1 at No. 2 and 1-0 at both Nos. 3 and 4.

Catch Aly and the Hurricanes in action at the final home match of the season on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Senior recognition for Aly, Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto will be held at approximately noon, between the doubles and singles portions of the event.
