CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- University of Miami reliever Bryan Garcia was among those recognized with All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Wednesday.

The righthander earned one of four spots at relief pitcher on the third team. It was the career-first All-America honor for Garcia, who was recognized with NCBWA Freshman All-America honors and All-ACC second-team recognition earlier in June.

Garcia, who was named the team’s closer in February, finished with 15 saves and an ERA of 1.75. The Miami, Fla., native registered 31 appearances – tied for the second-most of any pitcher on staff – and struck out 56 batters in 51.1 innings. He finished his first season with a record of 7-4.

Garcia’s 15 saves were the most for a Hurricane reliever since Danny Miranda totaled 15 in 2011, and tied him for the seventh-most in a single season in program history. A second-team All-ACC selection, Garcia recorded the second-most saves of any reliever in the conference.

Garcia becomes the second Miami Hurricane to be recognized with All-America honors in 2014; junior lefthander Chris Diaz was named a Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in early June.

NCBWA membership includes writers, broadcasters and publicists. Designed to promote and publicize college baseball, it is the sport's only college media-related organization, founded in 1962.
