CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami women's basketball hosts its annual Thanksgiving tournament this weekend and the Canes will take some time away from the court to give back to those in need.
Head Coach Katie Meier and her coaching staff and players have partnered with the Miami Coalition for the Homeless to feed over 200 of the Coalition's members from various shelters throughout the city.
"I'm so proud of my players and our marketing department for committing to this cause," Meier said. "As blessed as we all are, it's always special to take time to give back. I know my players will sincerely enjoy the experience."
Those traveling with the Coalition will enjoy Friday's game between the Hurricanes and Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. ET. Immediately afterwards, Coach Meier and Miami players and coaches will join the Miami Coalition for the Homeless in the BankUnited Center Multi-Purpose Room for a meal.
"We applaud the Hurricanes for being a great community partner and philanthropic focus in such a time of awareness and gratitude that the Thanksgiving Season represents," said Portia Dudley, Speakers Bureau Coordinator for the Miami Coalition for the Homeless. "We are grateful for the kindness Coach Meier and her team has shown us."
