ATLANTA -- Despite double-doubles from Shawnice Wilson and Keyona Hayes, Miami was unable to hold on to a second-half lead, falling at McCamish Pavilion on Sunday, 68-64.
Wilson and Hayes were nearly unstoppable early in the second half. Wilson scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and sixth of the season. Hayes added a career-high tying 14 points to go with her 11 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season and the most of all ACC freshmen.
However, Miami's 15-point second-half lead wasn't enough as Georgia Tech's Tyaunna Marshall's 37 points, 18 in the second half, led the Yellow Jackets' comeback.
Stefanie Yderstrom led Miami with 16 points and it appeared her corner three-pointer that put the Canes up five with 2:13 to play would seal it. But it wasn't meant to be as the home team scored the game's final nine points on their Senior Day.
Miami held a 38-32 halftime lead as they connected on 15 of its 18 free throw attempts while the Yellow Jackets were able to convert on only four their 11 tries.
Stroman opened the game on fire, scoring seven quick points and grabbing four offensive rebounds. However, she was limited to only nine minutes of action after picking up her second foul. Wilson was able to bouie the Canes rebounding effort as she grabbed seven in the opening stanza, before also exiting with two fouls.
Maria Brown and Hayes combined for 12 points and six rebounds in the opening half.
The Hurricanes return to the court on Feb. 28 when they play host to No. 4 Duke at 7 p.m. The contest will be the final home game of the season for Miami and it will honor its seniors in a pregame ceremony.
