#MusicMonday: Today's Hits

By David Villavicencio

The #MusicMonday series is back with an installment that focuses on today’s hits.

In previous editions, looked at different songs that are frequently heard at Canes football games and other Miami athletic events. The series also listed some of your favorite Canes’ top pre-game songs, but this week’s #MusicMonday is all about chart toppers.

“Clarity” by Zedd featuring Foxes

It seems like you cannot turn on the radio without hearing this dance hit. “Clarity” has become an EDM anthem across the country and catapulted Zedd to worldwide fame. The catchy hook and pulsating beat form a combination that Miami’s student section is sure to enjoy.

“I Need Your Love” by Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding

Harris, who has cranked out hits such as “Sweet Nothing”, “We Found Love” and “Feel So Close”, teamed with Goulding to record this dance tune. “I Need Your Love” may not have the typical hard-hitting beat that most would associate with contact sports, but the track is a smash hit that is dominating the airwaves.

“Feel This Moment” by Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera

Before he was “Mr. Worldwide”, Pitbull was known as “Mr. 305”. The Miami native paired with Aguilera for his latest pop hit and the two created a song that is catchy and inspiring. Aguilera’s powerful vocals drive a hook that encourages people to “Feel This Moment”, while Pitbull’s verses keep the song fun.

“Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Macklemore made a name for himself with his hit single, “Thrift Shop”, but the 30-year-old’s collaboration with producer Ryan Lewis took his career to another level. Though it was released in 2001, “Can’t Hold Us” gained popularity in March and climbed  to No. 1 on the charts. The inspiring track has been hyping music lovers ever since.

The #MusicMonday series will continue to grow and evolve over the summer with more submissions from your favorite Canes, but we also want to get the fans involved.
